Virginia (Gena) Hill, OTD

Occupational Therapist

Gena is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham's Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy Program, but she is a familiar face to GASLC as she completed one of her clinical rotations here during her graduate education. She grew up in Savannah, GA and attended the University of Georgia where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences. While at UAB she also completed a Graduate Certificate in the Multi-Tiered Approach to Trauma and has been trained in Trauma-Informed Education and practices.

Her clinical experience includes fieldwork placements in pediatrics with GASLC, outpatient neurology OT at the Andrew C. Carlos Multiple Sclerosis Institute at the Shepherd Center, adult psychiatric support, brain injury rehabilitation, and community re-integration support for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Gena has experience working with children of all ages and with a variety of diagnoses both in personal care and community settings, and she prioritizes Neurodiversity affirming, inclusive care. She has worked with children with diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delays, Epilepsy, rare genetic conditions, and others. Gena also has a special passion for family support and completed her Capstone Project for her OTD by creating a virtual caregiver support program for caregivers of children with medical complexities. She is excited to be facilitating GASLC's caregiver support group starting in December!

Outside of her passion for occupational therapy, Gena enjoys reading (mainly listening to audiobooks while navigating Atlanta traffic!), playing with her two dogs, Willis and Georgia, cheering on the Georgia Bulldawgs, going to the beach, and trying new recipes or restaurants with her fiancé!
